LEAP Gallery operates from 17 Victoria Street, Craigellachie – a property which has a distinguished vintage history. The building dates back to 1800’s, when it was owned by John McWilliam, Wine Merchant, a purveyor of fine wine and whiskies.
The original cellar remains where single malt whisky purchased from nearby Macallan Distillery would have been bottled. Very few whiskies were bottled as a single malt before the 1890’s, therefore it is not surprising that any bottles still in existence now fetch for more than £4,000.00 at auction. Unfortunately, the original owner left none behind! However the Macallan Distillery, just across the River Spey, does produce and sell a range of replica malts from this era.
